Community Participation
Determine if a community (i.e. city, town or county) participates in the National Flood Insurance Program
Community participation in the National Flood Insurance Program is continuously changing, and FEMA updates it Community Status Book roughly once a month. The Community Status Book lists tens of thousands of communities, which are generally cities and towns but also entire counties. Each has a date of initial participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and other important data, such as whether the participation is regular or emergency.
Insurance companies must know if a community participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, and so the data contained in the Community Status Book is essential. The National Flood Data API returns all the participation data from the Community Status Book for each community.
